Walt Disney World is a popular vacation destination for many people the world over as it is full of magic and excitement! It can be even more magical if you spend your day wearing what makes you feel the most special, which in many cases for us is loli. Unfortunately wearing loli to the parks has been a very hit or miss experience for some. Disney does not allow adults to enter the park in costume as it can be misleading to other guests who may think they are a character, and to Disney, loli falls under the category of costumes. Some lolis are allowed into the parks and report no problems, but others are turned away at the gates or told that they must change even when they are inside the parks! I thought that this was a huge problem, so for a long time I have been gathering information from cast members around the four Disney World parks to give me a proper idea of what they would, and would not allow in the parks loli wise.
In order to achieve honest results I interviewed over 50 cast members on what they would and would not allow into the parks. I showed pictures of real loli girls (that were submitted by you all in
this post, thank you so much!) and loli models and asked them specific questions as to why they would or would not let a guest dressed like this inside the park. I was often able to determine how a guest could modify an outfit so that they would be allowed inside.
I have compiled the information that I discovered into this guide to make your trip a little easier. Keep in mind though that this is not an official dress code, nor has it been approved by Disney, so if you have any problems getting in the park saying "But on the Disney-Loli Dress Code it said this was fine" will hold no authority. However if you do have any problems let me know and I will update the guide accordingly.
Hair
I am listing hair first because it was one of the most common reasons that lolis would be denied entry to the parks. The characters in the parks wear wigs, so any hair that looks unnatural is automatically going to send up red flags with cast members.
It is best to wear your hair in a natural style, of course that means that you can still curl it, put it in pigtails and things like that, but things like falls and unnatural coloured wigs are out. In general it's just best to skip the wig and style your own hair, but of course if you still want to wear a wig you can, just make sure it doesn't look artificial.
Hair Accessory
What you wear on your head is very important. Almost every cast member I talked to said that head eating bows and bonnets looked "costumey" and would contribute to a girl not being allowed inside the park. However accessories like Alice bows, barrettes and hats passed with flying colors. Oh, and a cool thing is that almost any unacceptable outfit was made acceptable by topping it off with Mickey Ears, proving that you are in fact a guest.
Make Up
Make up should look natural and fresh, anything that looks like it could be stage make up will be scrutinized. Surprisingly though this does not apply to gothic style make up. Disney is not commonly associated with this kind of dark style, and it seems that other guests will pick up on the fact that you aren't a character straight away. I was happily surprised to find that the cast members I interviewed hardly ever objected to gothic make up, no matter how over the top it was!
Outfit
Your jumperskirt, dress or skirt is the main component of you outfit, the center that ties everything together and is the most treasured piece of the coordinate. It is also the thing that will make you stand out the most as most people do not walk around in something that resembles the shape of a cupcake!
Most cast members were in favor of letting girls into the park who were wearing solids, floral prints or simple prints in a variety of pastels, muted shades and black. However many of the more over the top Angelic Pretty pieces were denied on the spot. Some cast members compromised saying that if the other elements of the loli outfit was toned down then the OTT piece would be appropriate, but others stood firm on the issue claiming that no matter what the rest of the outfit looked like the main piece was just too "costumey" (don't you love that word?). So feel free to wear your favorite prints, but wear the bold, busy ones at your own risk!
Socks
Although socks are adorable, especially in cute patterns, they are very impracticable for the heat of Orlando. No one wears socks if they can help it so, believe it or not, they say "character" loud and clear! It's best to go with bare legs, once you spend about five minutes in the Florida heat you'll understand why!
Shoes
Loli shoes defintily fell into the "costume" category as far as cast members were concerned. However tea party shoes in white, black and brown are acceptable. It's a good idea not to wear anything with a heel, loli or not, as a lot of walking is involved in a Disney trip. I'd say your best bet is to go shopping for some cute and comfy sneakers or flats just for your trip.
Bag
Try to bring bags that look like bags, not stars, candy, bunnies or other non-bag items. Your bag can still be super adorable and compliment your outfit, and chances are that it will hold more than a themed bag would anyway!
I hope that this article helped you to plan your outfit for your next trip to Walt Disney World. Remember, these aren't hard fast rules, just suggestions, so don't feel limited when putting together your special coordinate. Let me know when you'll be there, maybe you could come visit me at work! <3
